Lecture on the fictional female Glagolites

The history of Croatian Glagolitism mostly remembers its male participants, especially regarding writing and reading Glagolitic books and publicly nurturing and supporting the Glagolitic culture.

Such an imbalance didn’t go unnoticed among the writers who told stories about the Glagolitic tradition. Relying on their privilege of artistic freedom they created fictional female Glagolites thus complementing and “correcting” official history.

Those fictional female Glagolites in Croatian and foreign fictional literature were presented in the lecture The better half of the story about Glagolitism (Cro. Ljepša polovica pripovijesti o glagoljaštvu) which was given by the project lead Ana Šimić, Ph.D.

Croatian authoress Sanja Ždralović, who published the novel Glagolitic Mystery (Cro. Glagoljski misterij) in 2018, participated in the lecture by briefly answering a question about motifs and challenges of creating the character of medieval female Glagolite named Frana.

The lecture was organised and hosted by the Society of Friends of the Glagolitic script (Cro. Društvo prijatelja glagoljice). Its members and guests were introduced to the project FEMIGLA as well.
