The story of Susanna on Radio Split

Associate Professor Dr. Domagoj Runje (Catholic faculty of theology, University of Split), a member of the FEMIGLA project team, took part in HRT – Radio Split’s morning programme on Friday, 25 September 2026.

He was a guest on What We Don’t Know We Know (Croatian: Ono što ne znamo da znamo), hosted by Šime Kovačević and Suzana Jurković, where he discussed the biblical story of Susanna from the Old Testament and its earliest Croatian versions, which includes the medieval Croatian Glagolitic liturgical translation of the biblical book. Particular attention was given to Marko Marulić’s poetic version of the story.

The discussion also explored some of the broader issues raised by the story of Susanna that transcend the time and place of its origin: trust in the community’s elders and its betrayal, sexual coercion, the figure of the righteous woman, attitudes towards female beauty, and the position of women in marriage.
